Template setup

Read me: make it yours

Thanks for choosing this template. It’s plain HTML + CSS — no build step, no dependencies. Ten minutes here saves an hour later.

№ 01

Replace the brand words. Search every .html file for Cedar Hollow, Asheville, Dr. Priya Nair, Dr. Tom Whitfield, (828) 555-0117, and 2146 Sweeten Creek Rd, and swap in your clinic’s name, city, doctors, phone, and address. Replace the fictional ER too — Ridgeline Veterinary Emergency Hospital and (828) 555-0199 must become your real local emergency hospital before launch. Update hours in the CTA band and footer while you’re there.

№ 02

Re-skin in one place. Every color, radius, and shadow lives in the token block at the top of assets/site.css (the :root section). Change --c-marigold / --c-marigoldDeep for a new accent, --c-fern / --c-oat for the section tints — the whole site follows. Keep text/background pairs at WCAG AA (4.5:1); the deep accent exists because the bright one fails as text on cream.

№ 03

Fonts are self-hosted in assets/fonts/ (Bricolage Grotesque + Karla variable fonts, SIL OFL — license included). No Google Fonts request, no cookie banners needed for fonts. To swap typefaces, replace the .woff2 files and the family names in fonts.css and the two --f- tokens.

№ 04

Wire real booking. On book.html, replace the marked “scheduler embed slot” with your Vetstoria, PetDesk, or Calendly embed code. Then point the request form at your inbox or practice software (Formspree, Basin, or your PIMS’s web-to-lead) — the form is intentionally static until you do.

№ 05

Keep the form lightweight. The intake form collects contact details, pet name, and species — nothing clinical. Keep it that way: detailed history belongs in your practice software, not a generic form service, and a form that asks less gets submitted more.

№ 06

Swap the art. The homepage hero is one photograph (assets/img/hero-exam-warmth.jpg) held in the left half of the screen — replace it with your best real shot of the clinic or team and adjust object-position on .hero-portrait .hero-photo if the crop lands wrong. The service tiles elsewhere are CSS-composed by design, so they cost zero image requests; replace them with real photos if you have good ones (get the owner’s written OK for any recognizable pet or person), or keep the illustrated look — it’s fast and it never pixelates.

№ 07

Make the numbers yours. Every price on this site (the $45 offer, the exam fees, the “from” anchors for dentals and surgery) is template copy — so are the review quotes and the “4.9 from 280+ reviews” claims. Set your real fees, quote your real reviews, and use your real rating — then have your veterinarian review every clinical statement before launch.

№ 08

Analytics. No tracking ships with this template. Paste your analytics snippet (Plausible, Fathom, or GA4) before </body> on each page — and disclose it in privacy.html.

№ 09

Go live. Update the JSON-LD block in index.html (name, address, phone, URL, hours) — it powers your Google Business result. Then remove the <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> line from every page (it’s there so this demo stays out of search), connect your domain, and submit your sitemap in Google Search Console.

Compliance

This template is claim-careful by design — keep it that way. No medical-outcome promises (“we’ll cure”, “guaranteed recovery”, “stress-free, always”): describe process, not outcomes. Publish only fees you actually charge, and honor them. Claim only credentials you hold — “Fear Free Certified” and “AAHA-accredited” are real programs with real requirements, which is why this template says “low-stress handling” instead. Don’t list controlled substances or DEA details on a public website — it invites break-ins and scrutiny you don’t need. Patient photos need the owner’s written OK. Veterinary advertising rules vary by state; when in doubt, ask your state board or counsel.

How this template is built

Eight static pages, one stylesheet, zero external requests — it works from a plain folder, any host, even file://. All paths are relative. Fonts are bundled. The whole folder is under half a megabyte, so it’s fast on any connection.
