Services
What we do here — and what we honestly don’t.
A two-doctor practice can’t do everything, and shouldn’t pretend to. Here’s the full picture — each service, what it includes, and where we draw the line and refer.
01 · Wellness + prevention
The boring visits that prevent the scary ones
Annual exams for adults, twice-a-year exams for seniors, and vaccine schedules built around your pet’s actual exposure — a trail dog and an apartment cat don’t need the same shots. We’ll tell you which vaccines your pet genuinely needs and which would just pad the bill.
- Nose-to-tail exams with time to actually talk
- Core + lifestyle vaccines, $29–$42 each
- Heartworm, flea + tick prevention plans
- Nutrition + weight conversations without the guilt trip
- Senior screens: bloodwork, blood pressure, mobility checks
02 · Dental care
Dentistry done properly, under anesthesia
Most dental disease hides below the gumline, which is why every cleaning here happens under anesthesia with dental X-rays and a technician dedicated to monitoring — heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen — from sedation to wake-up. We don’t offer “anesthesia-free” cleanings: they polish the visible crown and miss the disease underneath.
- Pre-anesthetic exam + bloodwork, every patient, every time
- Full-mouth dental X-rays included
- Extractions with local blocks and take-home pain control
- A call from the doctor when your pet is awake
Complicated cases — jaw fractures, root canals, oral masses needing advanced imaging — go to a board-certified veterinary dentist. We’ll make the referral and send the records the same day.
From $520
incl. anesthesia, monitoring + X-rays
03 · Surgery
Routine + soft-tissue surgery, taken seriously
Spays, neuters, mass removals, wound repairs, and other soft-tissue procedures — each with a pre-op exam and bloodwork, an individual anesthetic plan, and a dedicated technician monitoring your pet the entire time. You get a written estimate before we schedule, and a discharge walkthrough before you take them home.
- Spay / neuter from $295, sized to your pet
- Mass + lump removals with lab analysis offered
- Multi-layer pain management, before and after
- Same-day discharge with written aftercare + a check-in call
Orthopedics — cruciate repairs, fracture plating, joint surgery — belongs with a board-certified surgeon, so we refer it. Same for procedures needing overnight ICU care.

Sick today, seen today — usually
We hold same-day slots most weekdays for the stuff that can’t wait a week but isn’t an emergency: vomiting, diarrhea, limping, ear infections, eye gunk, hot spots, minor wounds, “he’s just not himself.” Call first — a quick phone triage tells us how fast you need to be seen, and whether you should skip us and go straight to the ER.
- Same-day sick exam, $92 — call by mid-morning for best odds
- In-house lab + X-ray for same-visit answers to most questions
- Honest phone triage — we’ll say “go to the ER” when that’s the right call
05 · Exotic companions
Yes, we really do see your bearded dragon
Exotic companion medicine is Dr. Whitfield’s corner of the practice: rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, hamsters, ferrets, parakeets and most companion birds, bearded dragons, geckos, and non-venomous snakes. Most “sick exotic” visits trace back to husbandry — heat, light, diet, enclosure — so expect us to ask a lot about the setup, not just the animal.
- Exotics exam, $88 — bring photos of the enclosure
- Husbandry reviews: heat, UVB, diet, enrichment
- Nail, beak + wing care for birds and small mammals
- Quiet, dog-free exam times for prey species — ask when booking
We don’t see venomous species, primates, or farm animals, and complex avian surgery goes to an avian specialist. Call before you drive — we’ll tell you straight whether we’re the right clinic for your animal.

What we refer out — and why that’s good for your pet
A general practice that claims to do everything is a red flag. When your pet needs more than we can do well, we say so, we call ahead, and your records travel the same day.
We refer to specialists
- Orthopedic surgery — cruciate repair, fractures, joint work
- Advanced imaging — MRI, CT, specialist ultrasound
- Oncology beyond initial diagnosis and comfort care
- Cardiology work-ups and ophthalmic surgery
- Advanced dentistry — root canals, jaw fracture repair
