Twelve, or forty

There is no ballroom here and no events department. There is a back room that seats twelve, and there is the whole restaurant. Both come with the same kitchen and the same people, and neither costs a room-hire fee.

Option one

The back room

One long oak table, a door you can close, and candles down the middle. It seats twelve comfortably and fourteen if everyone is friendly. Good for a birthday, a wake, a client dinner, or the kind of work thing nobody wants to have in a conference room.

Tue – Thu minimum: $900
Fri & Sat minimum: $1,400
Deposit: $300, off the bill

The minimum is food and drink you actually eat and drink, not a fee. If your bill comes to more, you pay more; if it comes to less, the difference makes up the minimum — and we'll tell you honestly beforehand whether twelve people are likely to reach it.

Forty seated, or about sixty standing with the tables moved. Sunday is the easiest day to take the whole room and usually the one we'd steer you toward.

What we won't do

Take a booking we can't cook properly
Hide a service charge, a cake fee, or a corkage surprise
Move you to a worse room after you've paid a deposit
Pretend sixty standing is comfortable if it isn't

Option two

The whole restaurant

Forty seated or around sixty standing, with the bar open and the front door shut. Weddings, wakes, launches, and one memorable retirement party that ended with the entire kitchen doing shots at midnight.

Because it's one room, hiring it means we're closed to everyone else — which is why the minimum exists and why it is what it is. We'll be straight with you about whether your numbers make it worth doing.

Set menus

Three, and you pick one for the table

Private bookings eat from a set menu, because forty separate orders from an open menu is how a small kitchen produces mediocre food. Choose one; we'll cover every dietary requirement at the table without anyone being handed a different, sadder plate.

Bread and snacks, a choice of two starters and two mains, one pudding. The everyday one, and the one most people book.

The Sunday-supper format any night of the week: everything down the middle of the table, passed around. Best for a room that doesn't all know each other yet.

Nora cooks whatever is best that week and writes the menu ten days out. For the occasions that deserve three hours.

Drinks

Either on consumption from the normal list, or a per-head package: $32 for two hours of wine, beer and non-alcoholic, $48 for three hours including cocktails. Corkage is $30 a bottle for something you genuinely can't get here — and we'll waive it if you brought a bottle that matters to you.

Dietary requirements

Send us the list ten days out and every single one is covered inside the set menu, at no extra charge. Vegan, coeliac, nut allergy, no alcohol in the cooking — all normal. Nobody at your table gets a lesser dinner because of it, which is the entire measure of whether a kitchen is any good at this.
