The work

Ours. Taken in this room.

Every photograph here was shot at 412 Whitaker Street, of clients who said yes to being photographed. A gallery of borrowed stock images tells you nothing about what walks out of a particular door — so there isn't one on this site.

Cutting & colour

From Mireille and Sasha's chairs

A fresh blunt collarbone-length cut in a cool brunette, photographed from behind against a plaster wall
Blunt collarboneMireille · cut & finish

Cut dry to keep the line honest, then washed and finished. Grows out in a straight line rather than a shelf, which is the whole point of a blunt cut.

A tapered natural afro shaped and defined, photographed in profile with the light behind
Shaped naturalMireille · curly & textured

Shaped curl by curl, dry, over about ninety minutes. No product stacked on to fake definition — the shape is doing the work.

The finishing detail of a classic scissor cut and beard trim, barber's comb in frame

Sixty minutes, hot towel, and the neckline finished with a razor rather than a clipper guard. It's the neckline that makes it look expensive.

The room

412 Whitaker Street

A ground-floor unit in a restored townhouse: three chairs, tall shuttered windows, and enough space between stations that you're not sharing a conversation with a stranger.

The Marcel Avenue Studio floor: three styling chairs along a bone plaster wall under tall arched brass-framed mirrors, with mulberry towels stacked on a marble ledge

Getting in

Step-free entrance straight off Whitaker. One chair is height-adjustable and the basin has a fold-away arm — tell us when you book and we'll set the room up.

Parking

Metered along Whitaker, free after 5:00 pm and all day Sunday. The Whitaker Street garage is two blocks north and is the safer bet on a Saturday.

Photographs

We ask before we photograph anyone, every time, and it is entirely fine to say no. Ask us to take a picture down at any point and it comes down that day.

Book a chair

Bring a picture. Even one you hate.

The photographs you don't like tell your stylist more than the ones you do. Book online in about a minute.
