Neighbourhood restaurants & bars — dark-first, with the actual menu on the home page.

Restaurant Website Template homepage

The single most common mistake a restaurant site makes is putting the menu in a PDF: invisible to Google, unreadable on a phone, out of date by Friday. This template publishes the whole menu as real text on the home page, set the way a printed menu is set — oldstyle serif, italic descriptors, prices without dollar signs — with day-part tabs for dinner, bar and Sunday that run on radio inputs and no JavaScript at all. It is also the only dark-first template we sell, because a dining room at seven in the evening is dark, and the one light section on the page is the reservation block: the loudest thing here, because it's the only thing you want a visitor to do.

Questions

Why is the menu not a PDF?

Because a PDF is invisible to Google, unreadable on a phone, and the most common reason a restaurant loses a booking to the place next door. Typing your menu as text takes twenty minutes and is the single highest-return thing on this list. The trade-off is that you have to update it when the menu changes — the dated "printed Tuesday" line makes that visible on purpose.

How do the tabs work without JavaScript?

Three hidden radio inputs and CSS sibling selectors. That means they work with the keyboard, work with a screen reader, work with JavaScript disabled, and can never break. Adding a fourth day-part — brunch, lunch — is about ten lines, and the read-me walks through it.

Can I make it light instead of dark?

You can — every colour is a token at the top of one stylesheet. But the dark ground is doing real work here: it's why the single cream reservation section reads as the loudest thing on the page. If you invert everything, rebuild that contrast somewhere else.

Can it connect to my reservation system?

The reservation form points wherever you send it — Resy, OpenTable, SevenRooms and Tock all take web leads, and Formspree or Basin will email you submissions with no backend. If you'd rather embed a booking widget, drop it in place of the form.

Is this a subscription?

No — one payment and the files are yours. There is no runtime to rent, so you can host them free on Cloudflare Pages or Netlify. Twelve months of template updates are included; nothing stops working when they end.
